VoIP Engineer
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced IP Operations Engineer with a strong specialization in network and telecom infrastructure, particularly in VoIP technologies. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of IP-based telecom systems, ensuring seamless voice and data communication across the organization’s network. This role requires in-depth knowledge of network protocols, VoIP technologies, and telecom systems to provide reliable and scalable communication solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and optimize network performance for telecom and VoIP systems to ensure high availability, redundancy, and minimal downtime
- Implement and manage QoS (Quality of Service) to ensure priority and quality of VoIP traffic over the network
- Design, configure, and manage IP-based voice and data networks, including LAN/WAN and VPN environments
- Work closely with cross-functional teams including IT, Security, and Helpdesk to ensure smooth operation of network and VoIP systems
- Liaise with telecom vendors and service providers for troubleshooting, upgrades, and maintenance activities
- Monitor network and VoIP system performance using network management tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Wireshark) to detect and resolve issues
- Troubleshoot and resolve VoIP-specific issues (e.g., call quality, packet loss, jitter, latency) to maintain optimal performance
- Provide on-call support in case of critical incidents to minimize service disruptions
- Assist in the integration of VoIP applications with other platforms, such as call center systems or CPaaS platforms
- Manage Session Border Controllers (SBCs) for securing and routing VoIP traffic
- Ensure the effective operation of media gateways, transcoding systems, and failover solutions for carrier-grade VoIP services
- Configure, manage, and troubleshoot Kamailio, FreeSWITCH, and Asterisk to ensure robust VoIP services
Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in IP networking and telecom systems, with a strong focus on VoIP
- Hands-on experience with Kamailio, FreeSWITCH, and Asterisk
- Expertise in diagnosing and resolving network and VoIP performance issues
- Strong understanding of networking protocols, including TCP/IP, SIP, H.323, and RTP, as well as telecommunication systems like PBX, SIP trunks, and SBCs
- Experience with network infrastructure technologies such as routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs
- Familiarity with telecom regulations and compliance standards
- Strong communication and documentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with containerized VoIP services and cloud-native telecom infrastructure.
- Experience in developing automated monitoring and alerting solutions for VoIP systems.
